Is the measurement accurate?
Phone microphones vary in sensitivity and are not calibrated, so this is not as accurate as a professional sound level meter. Use it as a rough reference. For precise readings, use a certified meter.
Is anything recorded?
No. Sound is used only for real-time measurement and is never recorded or stored. The microphone input is discarded immediately after the decibel calculation.
The dB number seems off
Absolute values can differ because each phone's microphone calibration is different. Use it to compare relative loudness changes (quiet to loud) on the same device.
When is it useful?
To roughly check whether your home or office is quiet, how loud a cafe or street is, or to gauge everyday noise levels.
It does not work
Make sure microphone permission is allowed. In-app browsers (like social apps) may block the mic, so open the page in Chrome.
