FAQ
Is one dog year really seven human years?
No. Dogs mature very fast in the first two years, then age at a rate that depends on body size. One year is roughly 15 human years and two years is roughly 24, after which small breeds add about 4 human years annually and large breeds about 6.
Which size should I pick?
Use adult body weight: up to 9 kg is small, 10-22 kg medium, 23-40 kg large, and 41 kg or more giant. If your dog sits between two ranges, pick the closer one.
Why is there no size option for cats?
Body size varies far less between cat breeds than between dog breeds, so a single curve is used: about 15 human years at age one, 24 at age two, then roughly 4 per year.
What if I do not know the birth date?
Switch to manual entry and put in an estimated age. For rescued pets a veterinarian can often estimate age from tooth wear and general condition.
