How is rebar weight calculated?
Multiply the bar's unit weight (lb/ft) by total length. For example, #4 bar (0.668 lb/ft) at 26 ft total = about 17.4 lb. Add a lap/waste margin.
What standard are the weights from?
ASTM nominal values for US rebar (#3 to #11).
What does the bar number mean?
The number is the diameter in eighths of an inch. #4 = 4/8 inch = 0.5 inch diameter.
What waste margin?
Usually 3-5% for laps and loss; more for complex layouts.
What is the area used for?
Structural design: required steel area divided by single-bar area gives the bar count needed.
