FAQ
What is a board foot?
A lumber volume unit. 1 BF = 1in thick × 12in wide × 1ft long = 144 cubic inches (~0.00236 m³).
How is it calculated?
Thickness(in) × Width(in) × Length(ft) ÷ 12. For example, 2 × 6 × 8 ft = 8 BF.
What is 'sai'?
A Korean/Japanese lumber unit. 1 sai = 30.3 × 30.3 × 3636mm (~0.00334 m³). This tool shows it for reference.
Nominal vs actual size?
Lumber is sold by nominal size (e.g. 2x4), but milled actual size is smaller. Use nominal for board-feet pricing.
Which unit should I use?
BF for North American lumber, m³ for metric markets. This tool shows BF, m³, and sai together.
