A legal minimum length below which a fish may not be kept and must be released, set to protect fish stocks. Keeping undersized fish is penalized.
Does measurement differ by species?
Yes. Most fish use total length, but hairtail uses anal length, skate uses disc width, crabs use carapace length, shellfish use shell length/height, squid uses mantle length.
Do limits vary by region?
Some do. Horned turban is 5cm but 7cm in Jeju/Ulleung/Dokdo; abalone is 7cm but 10cm in Jeju. Check local notices.
